Coach Rocky Lamar, the head men's basketball coach at MNU led the 2006-2007 Pioneers back to the NAIA Division II tournament for the 9th straight year, where they became the first National Champions in MNU's history. This is the 12th appearance for the Pioneers in the tournament's 15 year history.

Coach Lamar has received "Coach of the Year" honors in the Heart of America conference 5 times. He was also "Coach of the Year" in NAIA district 10 1991-1992, MNU Staff Person of the year 99-00, alumnus of the year 2007, NAIA and KBCA coach of the year 2007.
